RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF YONKERS PROCLAIMING AND RECOGNIZING MAY 25, 2026 AS "JORDANIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY" THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF YONKERS.

WHEREAS, having gained their independence from Great Britain on May 25, 1946 and to be known as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan; and
WHEREAS, having been home to one of the oldest archeological mysteries the abandoned lost city of ancient Petra; and
WHEREAS, having celebrated their 75th anniversary of their independence from Great Britain in 2021; and
WHEREAS, having settled in the City of Yonkers and become important contributors to the community they now call home; and
WHEREAS, having over 80,000 Jordan citizens or descendants continue to live in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The City of Yonkers is a melting pot of cultures and peoples from all over the world and we should celebrate our diversity in our community; and
WHEREAS, Jordanian-Americans brought with them to America their strong work ethic, dedication to education, and diversity that have added strength to our great democracy; and
WHEREAS, the incredible contributions and heritage of Jordanian Americans have helped us build a better nation; and
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of Yonkers Proclaiming and Recognizing May 25, 2026 as "Jordanian Independence Day" throughout the City of Yonkers.
