A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING, REMEMBERING, REVELING IN, AND RHYTHMICALLY RECOUNTING THE REMARKABLE, RIDICULOUSLY RHYMING, READ-ALOUD RENOWNED LITERARY LEGACY OF DR. SEUSS ON HIS SPECTACULAR SEUSSIAN CELEBRATION DAY

WHEREAS, on March second, we gather and say, hip hip hooray for National Read Across America Day for Dr. Seuss’ birthday; and

 

WHEREAS, Theodor Seuss Geisel, with pen in his hand, built magical worlds across this great land; and

 

WHEREAS, with Cats in tall hats and green eggs on a plate, he taught us to read, imagine, create; and

 

WHEREAS, through Whos down in Whoville so tiny yet tall, he reminded us kindness is bigger than all; and

 

WHEREAS, with Horton who heard even the smallest “Yip!” He showed that a person’s a person, not small, not a blip; and

 

WHEREAS, through Grinches whose hearts grew three sizes one day, he proved love can chase all the grumpiness away; and

 

WHEREAS, through Loraxes speaking for trees in the air, he whispered of stewardship, teaching us care; and

 

WHEREAS, through rhymes that were silly, absurd, and bright, he made reading a joy and learning a delight; and

 

WHEREAS, generations of children have opened his books, and discovered whole worlds in crannies and nooks; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Yonkers believes every child should dream big and bold, curious and wild; and

 

WHEREAS, that residents, readers, teachers, and tiny town criers may open up books and ignite bright fires; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Yonkers hereby recognizes March 2, 2026, as Dr. Seuss Day in the City of Yonkers, celebrating the life, imagination, and literary legacy of Dr. Seuss; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Council honors the timeless invitation found on each colorful page: To read, to imagine, to care, and to turn every age.
