RESOLUTION SUPPORTING NEW YORK STATE SENATE BILL S.9405 AND ASSEMBLY BILL A.1033, THE “HOST ACT”, AUTHORIZING MUNICIPALITIES IN NEW YORK STATE TO ESTABLISH TEMPORARY EXPANDED ALCOHOL SERVICE AREAS FOR THE 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP

Whereas, New York State Senate Bill S.9405 and Assembly Bill A.1033 proposes to permit cities, towns, and counties in New York State to request expanded outdoor alcohol service for licensees, for a period beginning June 1st, 2026 and ending July 31st, 2026; and

 

WHEREAS, the tri-state region will be hosting eight World Cup matches, with around 1.2 million visitors expected to travel here during the tournament.  This bill would permit municipalities to spur economic development in the restaurant and hospitality industry, increase revenue for municipalities and the State, and enhance this once in a lifetime experience for New Yorkers and visitors from around the world; and

 

WHEREAS, similar laws have been implemented successfully throughout the Country.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Yonkers hereby expresses its strong support for New York State Senate Bill S.9405 and Assembly Bill A.1033; and be it further

 

RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Yonkers hereby urges the New York State Legislature to expeditiously pass New York State Senate Bill S.9405 and Assembly Bill A.1033 into law; and be it further

 

RESOLVED, that the City Council requests the City Clerk to forward a copy of this Resolution to the Legislature of the State of New York requesting the passage of the legislation

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution shall take effect immediately.
