RESOLUTION OF THE YONKERS CITY COUNCIL RECOGNIZING OCTOBER 2026 AS “FIRE PREVENTION MONTH” AND OCTOBER 4–10, 2026 AS “FIRE PREVENTION WEEK.”

WHEREAS, October is recognized as Fire Prevention Month, providing an opportunity to raise awareness about fire safety, prevention, preparedness, and the importance of protecting residents, families, homes, and businesses; and
WHEREAS, Fire Prevention Week is observed annually during the month of October and, in 2026, will take place from October 4 through October 10; and
WHEREAS, the 2026 Fire Prevention Week theme, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” focuses on safe charging practices and reducing the risk of fires associated with rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and the devices they power; and
WHEREAS, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are commonly used in everyday devices, including mobile phones, laptops, tablets, power tools, toys, electric bicycles, and electric scooters, making battery safety an important part of fire prevention education; and
WHEREAS, fire prevention education, working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, emergency preparedness, safe cooking and heating practices, and having and practicing a home fire escape plan are important steps residents can take to help protect themselves and their families; and
WHEREAS, the Yonkers City Council recognizes the important work of the Yonkers Fire Department and its firefighters in protecting the lives and property of residents and responding to emergencies throughout the City of Yonkers; and
WHEREAS, the City Council encourages residents of all ages to use Fire Prevention Month and Fire Prevention Week as an opportunity to learn about fire safety, review emergency plans, check smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and practice safe charging habits; and
