RESOLUTION DECLARING THE WEEK OF MARCH 8TH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS AWARENESS WEEK IN THE CITY OF YONKERS

WHEREAS, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, often disabling neurological disease that affects the central nervous system, disrupting the flow of information within the brain and between the brain and body; and
WHEREAS, nearly one million people in the United States are living with Multiple Sclerosis, and millions more worldwide are affected, with symptoms ranging from numbness and fatigue to mobility challenges and cognitive changes; and
WHEREAS, MS most commonly affects individuals between the ages of 20 and 50 and disproportionately impacts women; and
WHEREAS, there is currently no known cure for MS, and ongoing research, early diagnosis, and innovative treatments are critical to improving the quality of life for those living with the disease; and
WHEREAS, organizations such as the National Multiple Sclerosis Society play a vital role in advancing research, providing support services, advocating for public policy improvements, and fostering a sense of community for individuals and families impacted by MS; and
WHEREAS, the City of Yonkers recognizes the strength, resilience, and determination of residents living with Multiple Sclerosis and honors caregivers, healthcare professionals, and advocates who support them; and
WHEREAS, raising awareness and promoting education about Multiple Sclerosis encourages understanding, reduces stigma, and strengthens community support systems within the City of Yonkers
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Yonkers City Council hereby proclaims the week of March 8th until March 14th as “MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS AWARENESS WEEK” in the City of Yonkers; and
