Whereas, President Donald Trump has submitted a proposed 2026 budget to the Congress that would reduce, eliminate or otherwise destroy services and programs that are relied upon by the people of Yonkers in order to preserve their health, welfare, and quality of life, and

Whereas, the proposed budget proposes to eliminate the Community Development Block Grant Program which provides essential funding for numerous Yonkers non-profits that provide health, nutrition, education, and related services, and

Whereas, the proposed budget proposes to drastically reduce the Section 8 rental assistance program, which for many years has been essential in providing decent homes to thousands of Yonkers residents, and

Whereas, the proposed budget proposes to eliminate nutrition programs such that the Yonkers School District will lose the ability to provide meals to students in need, meaning that they may otherwise go hungry, and

Whereas, the Administration of Donald Trump has already undertaken measures that are harmful to the needs of Yonkers residents, such as closing the White Plains Social Security Office, which will result in increased wait times at the Yonkers Social Security Office, and may result in senior citizens and disabled persons being unable to qualify in a timely fashion for benefits to which they are entitled by law, and

Whereas, these are just the highlights of a proposed federal budget that will diminish services to all of the people of Yonkers, and will do particular damage to the middle class, the poor, children, ...
