RESOLUTION OF THE YONKERS CITY COUNCIL TO PROCLAIM SEPTEMBER 2025 AS CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH IN THE CITY OF YONKERS.

WHEREAS, September 2025 is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, an important opportunity for Americans to come together and bring awareness of the leading cause of death by disease for children, which is cancer.
WHEREAS, today, we can be grateful to see our children return to school, learning, developing friendships, and playing on the ballfields, the lives of thousands of other children across the nation are forever changed and impacted by cancer: some just receiving a dreadful diagnosis that will change their lives; others courageously waking up each day and continuing their fighting against the cancer plaguing their bodies; and still others, having to reckon with the spectra of parting from this world without living a full life;
WHEREAS, childhood cancer has not subsided, in fact it is on the rise in the Unites States, with an estimated 17,155 children diagnosed every year, or forty-seven new diagnoses per day, underscoring our need to accelerate our research and understanding of this devastating disease;

WHEREAS, here in Yonkers, we take this opportunity to honor the faith, courage and perseverance of our precious children who are waging a relentless battle against cancer every day; we honor their loved ones who support and help them through their battles; we say thank you to the medical professionals at St. John's Riverside Hospital, Saint Joseph's Medical Center, and all of the other medical offices in this City; we are grateful to the emergency medical team, researchers, charities, non-profits, faith based institutions, and all others who have dedicated their lives to the nation's fight against cancer;
