RESOLUTION
BY: COUNCIL PRESIDENT COLLINS-BELLAMY, MAJORITY LEADER RUBBO, MAJORITY WHIP NORMAN, MINORITY LEADER BREEN, COUNCILMEMBERS, PINEDA-ISAAC, DIAZ AND HODGES:
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YONKERS TO COMMEMORATE FEBRUARY 2026 AS NATIONAL HEART MONTH IN THE CITY OF YONKERS
WHEREAS, Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States claiming more than 650,000 lives each year: and
WHEREAS, during American Heart Month, we raise awareness of the risks of heart disease, remember those we have lost, and highlight steps we can take to save lives of countless loved ones; and
WHEREAS, Despite the significant progress we have made heart disease continues to exact a heart-breaking toll on American lives; and
WHEREAS, on February 6th - National Wear Red Day -we honor those we have lost to heart disease in February of each year; and
WHEREAS, Heart disease disproportionately burdens black and brown Americans, American Indians and Alaska Natives and people who live in rural communities; and
WHEREAS, Cardiovascular diseases-including heart conditions and strokes are also the leading causes of pregnancy-related deaths, which are highest amongst woman of color; and
WHEREAS, addressing these tragic disparities and improving heart health has never been as important, as people suffering from heart disease and related conditions are also at increased risk of severe illness and long-term effects from COVID -19; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to recognize the significance of American Heart Month in the City of Yonkers by commemorating February as American Heart Month in the City of Yonkers.
