Title: RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MARCH 26, 2026, AS PURPLE DAY FOR EPILEPSY AWARENESS IN THE CITY OF YONKERS TO PROMOTE EDUCATION, COMPASSION, AND SUPPORT FOR RESIDENTS AND FAMILIES AFFECTED BY EPILEPSY.

BY COUNCIL PRESIDENT COLLINS-BELLAMY, MAJORITY LEADER RUBBO, MINORITY LEADER BREEN, MAJORITY WHIP NORMAN, COUNCILMEMBERS DIAZ, PINEDA-ISAAC AND HODGES.

 

RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING MARCH 26, 2026, AS PURPLE DAY FOR EPILEPSY AWARENESS  IN  THE  CITY  OF  YONKERS  TO  PROMOTE  EDUCATION, COMPASSION, AND SUPPORT FOR RESIDENTS AND FAMILIES AFFECTED BY EPILEPSY.

 

WHEREAS, Purple Day is observed annually on March 26 to raise public awareness about epilepsy, a neurological condition affecting more than 50 million people worldwide; and

 

WHEREAS, epilepsy impacts individuals of all ages, races, and backgrounds, and those living with epilepsy often face stigma, misunderstanding, and barriers to full participation in community life; and

 

WHEREAS, Purple Day was established to promote education, advocacy, and compassion, while encouraging people across the globe to show their support by wearing purple; and

 

WHEREAS, increasing public awareness about seizure recognition, treatment, and safety helps save lives, reduces fear, and strengthens community support for those affected by epilepsy; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Yonkers is committed to promoting public health, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all residents;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Yonkers City Council hereby recognizes March 26, 2026, as Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness in the City of Yonkers; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that residents, schools, businesses, and community organizations are encouraged to wear purple and participate in educational and awareness activities to show support for individuals and families living with epilepsy; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Yonkers reaffirms its commitment to fostering a community where all individuals, including those living with epilepsy, are treated with dignity, understanding, and respect.
