A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF YONKERS RECOGNIZING OCTOBER 2026 AS NATIONAL BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH AND OCTOBER 21, 2026, AS UNITY DAY IN THE CITY OF YONKERS

WHEREAS, October is recognized as National Bullying Prevention Month, a month-long effort dedicated to raising awareness about bullying prevention and promoting kindness, acceptance, inclusion, and safe and supportive communities; and
WHEREAS, Bullying can affect children and young people in schools, communities, online, and in other settings, making bullying prevention an important community-wide effort; and
WHEREAS, National Bullying Prevention Month provides an opportunity for students, families, educators, community organizations, and residents to learn about bullying prevention and take meaningful steps to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion; and
WHEREAS, Unity Day is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month and provides an opportunity for communities to come together to send a visible message of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to stand together against bullying; and
WHEREAS, October 21, 2026, is recognized as Unity Day, and residents, schools, organizations, and community members are encouraged to wear and share orange as a visible symbol of unity and support for prevention of bullying; and
WHEREAS, Wearing and sharing orange on Unity Day provides an opportunity to show support for young people who have experienced bullying and to encourage individuals to speak up, reach out, and promote kindness and inclusion; and
WHEREAS, The City of Yonkers recognizes the importance of creating safe, welcoming, and supportive environments where all young people can learn, grow, and participate without fear of bullying; and
