A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF YONKERS DECLARING THE MONTH OF JUNE 2025 “MEN’S HEALTH MONTH” AND RECOGNIZING JUNE 9TH-15TH 2025 AS “MEN’S HEALTH WEEK”

WHEREAS, Men’s Health Month is part of an ongoing international effort to educate men, boys, and their families about the importance of prevention, early detection, and screening; and
WHEREAS, prevention is key to good health, and men and boys are reminded to have regular health check-ups, to be alert to the symptoms of potential health problem, and seek proper advice and early treatment for a disease, illness, or injury; and
WHEREAS, despite advances in medical technology and research, men continue to live an average of five years less than women with Native American and African-American men having the lowest life expectancy; and
WHEREAS, Men’s Health Month is a time for the public to recognize the mental and physical health needs of men and boys while encouraging fathers to be role models for their children through preventive health screening, healthy living, and seeking needed help; and
WHEREAS, the centerpiece of Men’s Health Month is National Men’s Health Week, a special awareness period passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton on May 31, 1994; and
WHEREAS, National Men’s Health Week, celebrated during the week before and culminating with Father’s Day, which sends a strong message to men of all ages, reminding them to be vigilant, attentive, and alert when it comes to their health; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Legislative Body hereby proclaims the month of June 2025 as Men’s Health Month and recognizes June 9th -15th 2025 as “Men’s Health Week” in the City of Yonkers.
