WHEREAS, The President of the United States is requested to issue each year a proclamation calling on; and

WHEREAS, the people of the United States observe a moment of silence on Patriot Day in honor of the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States that occurred on September 11, 2001; and

WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four civilian aircraft, crashing two of them into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, and a third into the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, the fourth hijacked aircraft crashed in southwestern Pennsylvania after passengers tried to take control of the aircraft in order to prevent the hijackers from crashing the aircraft into an important symbol of democracy and freedom; and

WHEREAS, these attacks were by far the deadliest terrorist attacks ever launched against the United States, killing thousands of innocent people; and

WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, ordinary Americans performed extraordinary acts of heroism. Firefighters and police officers rushed into crumbling buildings and raging fires to save others; and

WHEREAS, EMTs, construction workers, colleagues, and strangers tended to the wounded. Passengers and crew members gave their lives, and a generation of women and men answered the call of duty by joining our armed forces to defend our freedom and our democracy; and

WHEREAS The City of Yonkers will honor the memory of the lives lost on September 11, 2001, by hosting several remembrance ceremonies as well as Performing Acts of Community Service in the City of Yonkers throu...
