BY COUNCIL PRESIDENT COLLINS-BELLAMY, MAJORITY  LEADER RUBBO, MAJORITY WHIP NORMAN, MINORITY LEADER BREEN, COUNCILMEMBERS, PINEDA-ISAAC, DIAZ AND HODGES:

RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF YONKERS RECOGNIZING MAY 28, 2026 AS "RED NOSE DAY" TO RAISE AWARENESS OF AND ELIMINATE CHILDHOOD POVERTY.

WHEREAS, Red Nose Day is a fundraising campaign run by the non-profit organization Comic Relief Inc., a registered U.S. 501(c)(3) public charity; and

 

WHEREAS, Red Nose Day returns to America on Thursday May 28,2026; and

 

WHEREAS, Red Nose Day launched in the US in 2015, dedicated to ending child poverty, both in the US and in some of the poorest communities in the world. The money raised by Red Nose Day in the US has benefited programs for children and young people in all 50 states and in 34 countries internationally; and

 

WHEREAS, Red Nose Day brings people together to have fun, raise money and change the lives of kids who need our help the most; and

 

WHEREAS, Globally, Red Nose Day has raised over $1 billion since its launch in the UK in 1988; and

 

WHEREAS, Red Nose Day is on a mission to end child poverty - one Nose at a time. Money raised supports programs that ensure children in need are safe, healthy and educated; and

 

WHEREAS, The money raised by Red Nose Day benefits children in some of the neediest communities in the US and some of the poorest communities in the world. Partner charities include Boys & Girls Clubs of America; charity: water; Children's Health Fund; Covenant House; Feeding America; Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; UnidosUS; Save the Children and The Global Fund; and

 

WHEREAS, All of Red Nose Day's grant money supports projects to keep children and young people safe, healthy, educated and empowered; and

 

WHEREAS, This year Red Nose Day is May 28, 2026, in order to raise awareness about childhood poverty, and promote fundraising to provide support to children living in poverty and prevent future generations of children from living in poverty; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Yonkers recognizes and commemorates May 28, 2026 as Red Nose Day to prevent and raise awareness of the epidemic of childhood poverty in the City of Yonkers.
